Advances in manufacturing technology and materials technology mean that multi-angle double-sided negative plates can now be manufactured with a large rake angle. This means that the sharpness of conventional positive geometry plates can be successfully combined with the strength and flexibility of negative geometry plates. The all-positive geometry conveys much lower cutting resistance, but also has all the other advantages inherent in negative geometry inserts.

Developments in technology have led to the possibility of expanding the already existing cast iron milling series - the AHX640W. The result is the creation of the new series - AHX640S, now providing the ability to machine a wide range of materials, from alloys and hardened steels to stainless steels and super alloys.

The new AHX-S and the existing AHX-W milling cutters, available in two types - standard or fine - give users the option of selecting a tool according to the power of a machine to achieve the highest possible level of performance. If a high tooth count causes the machine to exceed its capacity, then choosing a cutter with fewer but higher tooth feed capability can prove beneficial.

The milling heads are available from ø63 to ø200 mm diameter. All milling cutters have cooling holes through the body, which helps to remove chips from the cutting area and contributes to longer tool life.

The special „Anti-fly“ clamping technology of the unique heptagonal plate with 14 cutting edges, enables the design of a much larger chip pocket, which is necessary when machining steel... steel chips are typically twice as long compared to the chips released when machining cast iron. The tried and trusted VP15TF insert grade (coated based on Mitsubishi's patented technology - „Miracle“) with the new „MP“ chipbreaker, provides the performance and reliability needed when machining steels, alloys and super alloys... ductile and grey cast iron can be machined at lower cutting speeds. High productivity in machining cast irons with an AHX-S type milling machine can be realized by selecting the MC5020 grade with „MK“ or „HK“ chipbreaking.

Plates have numbered cutting edges for easy identification and indexing.

Three main types of chipbreakers are available to cover different applications:

„MK“ - with double positive cutting edge geometry, offers low cutting resistance, suitable for machining cast iron on low power or older machines.

„MP“ - In-depth chipbreaking for steel and super alloys as well as cast iron.

The range is completed by „HK“ and „WK“ chipbreakers for heavy and „Wiper“ machining. It should be emphasized that „WK“ (Wiper) inserts cannot be used simultaneously with „MP“ inserts.
