Mitsubishi Materials expands its innovative series iMX with the new BT30 range of tool holders. These specialist holders are designed to complement the variety of geometries and types in the iMX range of interchangeable carbide end mills, providing greater stability and machining efficiency.
Advantages of the monobloc holder
Unlike standard milling collets, the monoblock holder significantly reduces tool protrusion, resulting in greater stability. It allows efficient operation even with larger diameter tools, which increases productivity.
When using a standard milling collet, a threaded, screw-on type shank is required on the tool. The monoblock holder eliminates this need, resulting in cost savings. An additional advantage is the special cut at the base of the shank, which makes the holder particularly suitable for machining vertical walls.
iMX - innovative milling system
The series iMX combines the advantages of carbide and indexable cutters. This concept provides significant improvements in productivity, especially when working with large protrusions. The use of interchangeable heads eliminates the need for expensive long length carbide cutters while reducing tool change time. Instead of releasing from the collet clamping mechanism or holder, the head can simply be unscrewed and replaced.
Secure and precise fastening
One of the key advantages of the system iMX is the double contact between the carbide head and the holder. This design provides stability and strength comparable to standard carbide cutters. This is made possible by the fact that both the taper and face contact surfaces are made of carbide, while only the threaded part is steel.
This fastening method offers numerous advantages over standard „steel-carbide“ connections:
✔ Increased efficiency by increasing the cutting parameters
✔ Improved accuracy on processing
✔ Higher reliability at work
Wide area of application
The use of interchangeable heads in milling cutters has obvious advantages in reducing inventory and tool changeover times. In addition, they provide high performance in a variety of applications, the main ones including machining titanium and heat resistant alloys such as Inconel.
In addition, these tools are an excellent choice for high-performance milling:
🔹 Stainless steel
🔹 Carbon and alloy steels
🔹 Aluminium
🔹 Hardened steels
Next generation Smart Miracle coating
This wide range of applications is not only possible thanks to the robust and reliable fastening system, but also through the use of the Smart Miracle coating on the EP7020 carbide material.
This super-fine and super-hard carbide substrate is coated with an innovative (Al, Cr)N Smart Miracle coating that provides significantly better wear resistance than conventional coatings.
Additional surface treatment of the coating improves the machined surfaces, reduces cutting resistance and facilitates chip evacuation.
This revolutionary next-generation coating delivers class-leading performance and service life, especially when machining stainless steel and other hard-to-machine materials.
With the new BT30 series holders iMX, Mitsubishi Materials continues to provide innovative solutions that increase productivity and reduce costs in the metalworking industry.
