The metal removal rate is one of the key factors to achieve a certain efficiency. Achieving this efficiency requires the combination of several elements; a fixed clamped stable component, good cooling and a capable cutting tool to remove large masses of material without overloading the shaft. The multifunctional AXD7000 series from Mitsubishi Materials has several features thanks to which the usual problems of machining at high parameters as required by the modern production environment are prevented. The speed for external metal removal is up to 10,000 1/min. Achievable with a good choice of the right methods. The combination of features such as a stable fixed tool body, super secured insert attachment and carbide inserts with the new geometry design, guarantees - resistance and depth of cut. The range of cutters from ø32 - ø125 includes dovetail and arbor types as well as type - mono block with HSK63-A interface, which are highly resistant and already available. Extremely good safe clamping of the inserts to the tool body is a critical point, and this is now possible using two clamping screws for each insert, together with Mitsubishi's AFI (anti-flying mechanism), help to increase clamping and positioning safety. Tests have shown that after cutting, the tool using the double clamp and AFI mechanism has minimal plate displacement - only 6 µm, compared to conventional clamped plates where the displacement is up to 17 µm.
